A Polymarket Whale Lost Nearly $1.8 Million Betting on Khamzat Chimaev

This week, one of Polymarket’s most visible bettors showed how thin that line can be.
A trader using the name “SecondWindCapital” reportedly lost nearly $1.8 million after heavily betting on Khamzat Chimaev to defeat Sean Strickland at UFC 328.
Before the fight, the position looked easy to justify. Chimaev was undefeated, heavily favored, and seen by many traders as the stronger side. Screenshots shared online showed SecondWindCapital building more than $1.4 million in exposure tied to Chimaev-related outcomes.
The win made Strickland a two-time middleweight champion and handed Chimaev the first loss of his professional MMA career after a 16-fight unbeaten streak.
The morale of this story – 80% is still not a guaranteed 100%. Prediction markets can show what is likely, but they do not turn probability into certainty. SecondWindCapital paid the price for sizing the bet as if the gap did not matter.
