How Predictionist works
Every page on this site is built from data we can name. This page says where each kind of number comes from, what it means, and how fresh it is.
Why a page exists
A page exists because the sport happened: a match was scheduled, a tournament was drawn, a player played. Pages are created from the official schedule, never from a betting market. A market is shown on a page that already exists; it never creates one.
Where the numbers come from
- Schedules, results, scores and draws
- A licensed tennis data feed (api-tennis). It is also the source for official ATP and WTA rankings, past seasons and head-to-head records.
- Win chances and market prices
- Polymarket, a prediction market, through its public market data. We show its prices; we do not set them.
- Tournament place, category and prize money
- The tournament's Wikipedia article, or written by our editors. When we hold neither, the page says so instead of guessing.
- Serve, return and season records
- Counted from the matches in our own store, so they say what the player actually did.
What a percentage means
A percentage is market-implied: it is the price of that outcome on Polymarket, read as a chance. A price of 63 cents is shown as 63%. It is what people trading on the market think, not a prediction of ours, and it is not betting advice.
The price before the match is the market's last price before the scheduled start, and only when it is no older than two days. An underdog win is a match won by the player that price gave less than 50%.
A market is linked to a match only when the names and the date match without doubt. Two players sharing a surname, or a market we cannot read, is left unlinked rather than guessed.
How fresh it is
Prices and live scores are refreshed every 15 minutes, and each one is shown with the time it was observed. While a match is in play, its page checks for a newer score every two minutes. The rest of a page (results, draws, records) is rebuilt on a slower cycle, and each page says when its numbers were true.
What we never do
- Invent a number. When we do not have one, the page says so in words.
- Show a price without the time it was observed.
- Treat a score in progress as a result. Results come from the official feed once a match is over.
- Link a hub page to a betting market. Only match, player and tournament pages carry a market link.
